A. Questions

To create a new question

1. Click the Gear Icon on the top-right side of the page. After clicking, the site will show setting options for the course. Click Questions.

2. Click on Create a new question to add a question.

3. Choose and select a question type you want from the list of different question types. Then, click Add.

    • Calculated - Calculated questions are like numerical questions but with the numbers used selected randomly from a set when the quiz is taken.

    • Calculated Multichoice - Calculated multichoice questions are like multichoice questions which choice elements can include formula results from numeric values that are selected randomly from a set when the quiz is taken.

    • Calculated Simple - A simpler version of calculated questions which are like numerical questions but with the numbers used selected randomly from a set when the quiz is taken.

    • Drag and Drop into text - Missing words in the question text are filled in using drag and drop.

    • Drag and Drop into markers - Markers are dragged and dropped onto a background image.

    • Drag and Drop onto image - Images or text labels are dragged and dropped into drop zones on a background image.

    • Embedded Answers - Questions of this type are very flexible, but can only be created by entering text containing special codes that create embedded multiple-choice, short answers and numerical questions.

    • Essay - Allows a response of a file upload and/or online text. This must then be graded manually.\

    • Essay (Auto-grade) - Allows an essay of several sentences or paragraphs to be submitted as a question response. The essay is graded automatically. The grade may be overridden later.

    • Matching - The answer to each of a number of sub-question must be selected from a list of possibilities.

    • Multiple choice - Allows the selection of a single or multiple responses from a pre-defined list.

    • Numerical - Allows a numerical response, possibly with units, that is graded by comparing against various model answers, possibly with tolerances.

    • Random short-answer matching - Like a Matching question, but created randomly from the short answer questions in a particular category.

    • Select Missing words - Missing words in the question text are filled in using drop-down menus.

    • Short answer - Allows a response of one or a few words that is graded by comparing against various model answers, which may contain wildcards.

    • True/False - A simple form of multiple choice question with just the two choices 'True' and 'False'.

    • Description - This is not actually a question. Instead it is a way to add some instructions, rubric or other content to the activity. This is similar to the way that labels can be used to add content to the course page.

    • Cloze - science

    • Essay - science

    • Matching - science

    • Multiple choice - science

    • Short answer - science

    • True/False - science

4. Complete filling up the question form you are creating.

5. Click on Save changes and continue editing to partially save your question, or Save changes when done.

To move a question to another category

1. To move a question into a different category, click the small box on the left to mark the question.

2. Select a different question category using the drop-down menu under the With selected.

3. Then, click the Move to. Question bank will change the view to the category you selected and will display all questions in that category.

To edit, duplicate, preview and delete a question

1. To edit a question click the Gear icon.

2. To duplicate a question click the Duplicate icon beside the Gear icon.

3. To preview a question click the Magnifier icon beside the Duplicate icon.

4. To delete a question click the Trash can icon.


B. Categories

Rather than keeping everything in one big list, questions may be arranged into categories and sub-categories.

1. Click the Categories tab to access the Categories page.


2. Complete filling up the Add category form.

3. Then, click Add category at the bottom when done.

C. Import

This function enables questions in a variety of formats to be imported via text file.

1. If you want to import questions from file, click the Import tab.

2. Choose a file format and upload a file with maximum size of 10mb. You can drag and drop files to add from your device.

3. Then, click on Import when done.

D. Export

This function enables the export of a complete category (and any subcategories) of questions to file.

1. If you want to export questions, click the Export tab.

2. In the Export page, choose a file format and a category from which the exported questions will be taken.

3. Then, click on Export questions to file when done.
